Cornwall Skills Programme
We are pleased to announce the registration for the Cornwall Skills Programme (CSP) is now OPEN. In the past the registration was done on paper and posted to the CSP manager. This year we have moved to an online registration form to make it easier (and greener) for all. Please follow the link to the Microsoft Form and fill it in. Questions marked with an * are required fields. Some questions don’t require an answer e.g the bank details to pay for the CSP, they are for your information only.
Please note; U14’s & U15’s boys should select their closest satellite venue (Penryn, Penwith, Callywith or Newquay). U16’s Boys should select Truro as all U16’s boys will train at Truro College. All girls should also select Truro (girls CSP) as all girls will train at Truro College.
U14’s / U15’s Boys will train every Monday evening from September – April, commencing September 13th 2021.
U16’s Boys will train every Tuesday evening from September – April, commencing September 14th 2021.
U15 & U18 Girls will train every other Friday evening (bi-weekly) from September – April, commencing 20th September 2021.
Important Information
Last season U13’s didn’t happen due to Covid (we are also now not running U13’s to stay aligned with the RFU DPP programme). Those U13’s that registered and paid last season don’t need to pay again for the U14’s season, but please re-register so we have any new information / contact details.
Rich Siveter was the CSP manager, however due to new work commitments he has stepped down from his role. Rich did a fantastic job organising the CSP to provide further development opportunities for players in Cornwall and I’d like to thank him for all his hard work. I have taken over from Rich Siveter, so any questions please contact me on richardphillips@exeterchiefs.co.uk.
We are very excited to get the CSP up & running and to provide more development opportunities for your son/daughter.
Kind regards,
Richard Phillips

All age grade players are required to be registered with the RFU to ensure accurate contact details and consents are in place. Over the last three years the RFU’s Game Management System (GMS) has been improved to allow players and parents to create and manage their own online account. In some instances, clubs have been managing the registration process on behalf of their players, from this season players and parents of age grade players will be responsible for the accuracy of their own data. This will have the benefit of improving communications, it will give players an accurate record of their playing career and it will ease the administration burden on club volunteers and administrators. From the 2021-22 season player registration will be known as annual affiliation, allowing parents and players to update their details and affiliate with their chosen rugby club each year. On 4 August, all previous age grade registrations in the game management system were switched to inactive to allow parents to renew their affiliation simply through logging in, checking their existing details and saving to re-affiliate to their club for the season. If your club has registered you on the RFU GMS they will be able to provide you with your login details or send you an email confirmation via the system. There are helpful step-by-step guides for the renewal process and for brand new affiliations on the GMS Help Portal. Affiliation Renewal GMS Help Portal |

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) will introduce a law change to the tackle height in age grade rugby in England for the 2021/22 season.
The existing rules for those playing full contact rugby at Under 9 to Under 14 levels has an imagined line between the armpits as the maximum height of a legal tackle.
Under the law change, approved by the RFU Council, this rule now extends to Under 15 to Under 18 levels bringing the tackle height down from shoulder level to the armpit for those age groups.
This means all players who are permitted to tackle in full contact age grade rugby (those participating at Under 7 and Under 8 level play non-contact rugby) will do so at the same height.

I am writing to you just as a reminder that we are open for business in relation to our Small Grants Scheme whereby any of your Youth Sections can apply for a grant of up to £500.00p to purchase or replace any training equipment etc they may need, be it as a one-off purchase or to be combined with any fundraising any of the teams may be doing.
As previously mentioned we are surprised that since we started this Grant Scheme only one has been received from the Cornwall area being a £500.00p grant back in April 2018.
Would it be possible for you to put this out to all of your clubs again so we can help them in some way. The monies are in the bank waiting to be used. As suggested before all they need to do is apply via our website www.chiefssupportersclub.co.uk or direct to me at my email address, email: pcurgenven.pc@gmail.com.
All applications will be considered by the committee. To date we have given away £8,900.00p in grants to assist in youth development.
In this time of cutbacks etc, we are sure there are clubs in Cornwall, whose youth sections would find a grant from this source beneficial. Over to you.

The Age Grade Rugby season ends on 31st May. The only permitted activity for June is:
• Tag Rugby – U7 to U18 boys and girls
• Ready4Rugby – U9 to U18 boys and girls
All players will move up to their new age grade on 1st August. Boys age grade players will remain with the same rules of play as for the 20-21 season until 1st Jan – as an example, U9s in 2020-21 still become U10s in 2021-22 but will play U9s rules from September to December and U10 rules from January. Girls age grade players will move as usual up to the new rules of play from 1st August 2021.
More details of what is permitted is at the Summer Activity Guidance https://www.englandrugby.com/…/Return2Rugby…
