I am writing as the temporary CRFU Under 20 Team Manager to ask for your assistance with
the coming season. Cornwall U20’s enters the Jason Leonard Cup, the County Championship

The squad will be coached by Rich Kevern who also acts as a link for these young players into
the full County squad. We will be holding training sessions commencing in January 2025 on
Sunday mornings at Truro college between 1000 -1200 with the aim of building a squad for the
Jason Leonard Cup U20 County Championship.
We would like you to nominate players that you feel have the skill / knowledge and potential to
represent your club at County Under 20 level.
The requirements are nominated players must be under 20 years of age on 1 st September
2024, however, they must also be over the age of 18 before they can train as it is classed as
adult rugby and registered as an adult player with your club.
If you wish to discuss any potential players, then please do not hesitate to contact myself in the
first instance on the details above or in the county handbook. I thank you in anticipation of your
support. Please complete and return the pro forma (link below) by 05 October 2024 to me or the assistant

Frank Johns R.I.P.
It is with regret that Hayle Rugby Club has learnt of the passing of Frank Johns on Thursday 18 July 2024.
Frank first played rugby for Hayle Old Boys, which was the forerunner of Hayle Colts, in the early 1950s. He progressed into the first team as full back with, in Frank’s words “the safest hands in the south west!!” Some of his team mates were the Mungles brothers, Rick Roscorla and Roger Peak. He represented Hayle in 225 matches before hanging his boots up in 1964.
Thus began his colts coaching career. Over many years he was always keen to develop the younger teams and encourage the younger players. Many of these young players progressed up through the senior teams of the club playing for many years. Also, representing the club at all Cornwall county levels. When it also, came for some of these players to hang up their boots, Frank had helped and encouraged them to became committee members and volunteers within the club.
He became club chairman for the first time during the club Centenary season of 1977 and later to serve a further two long terms as club chairman.
Along with being the club steward, Frank served on many club and county committees. For Hayle he was team secretary, disciplinary chairman, car boot organiser etc. For the County he was the club representative and also helped with the U20s.
He was often the first face that many teams, referees and officials encountered when visiting Hayle and this built up a large friendship network for Frank over the years.
He was a man that transcended the generation gap by travelling on tours with senior and younger players. This earned him a high respect and he was held in great esteem by many teams and officials.
His love for the game of rugby was also shared with his passion for cricket. He would spend his summer months at Hayle Cricket Club, watching and helping in many roles.
A true club stalwart and deserved the accolade when he was made a life member.
He was a man small in stature but a giant in his service and dedication to Hayle RFC.
We offer our condolences to Frank’s family and friends. His funeral will be held at Phillack Church on 2nd August at 2.00pm.
